Rudiantara: “Indonesia needs innovations..”

BANDUNG, August 31, 2017 — Three teams was finally announced as the winners of RIoT Hackathon 2017. The three teams are Ex (1st place), Deadliners (2nd place), and AIM (3rd place), winning a cash prize of 15 million, 10 million, and 5 million rupiahs, respectively. In addition to the three top winners, CIKUR was awarded the coveted Judge’s Pick. The four teams prevailed over the 30 participating teams in the 22-hour, non-stop hardware hacking event that began in August 26 and ended on August 27, 2017.

The top 4 teams were also awarded medals to symbolize their representation in the rising IoT movement in Indonesia. In addition, they also receive the ESP-WROVER-KIT, a hardware kit which has not been released yet for the public, courtesy of Espressif Systems. Team AIM will fly to Cyberjaya, Malaysia in an effort to represent Indonesia in ASEAN Makerthon, an hardware hacking event that will begin on September 8th-10th.

RIoT Hackathon 2017, which kicked off on August 26, 2017, was officially opened by the Republic of Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara. Rudiantara highlighted that Indonesia is in need of the ideas offered in RIoT Hackathon 2017. “This country needs innovation, and those innovations can be realized either by creating new products or improving existing products in new ways,” Rudiantara said in front of 30 teams of Republic of IoT Hackathon 2017.

Kominfo’s APTIKA Director, Septriana Tangkary also attended the event to give the RIoT Hackathon 2017 support. Mrs Tangkary was commited to forward some of the participants’ ideas to the implementation of Republic of Indonesia’s pilot projects. Mrs Tangkary also went on stage to present the grand prizes to the winners.

RIoT Hackathon 2017 is a part of a series of event that comprised Republic of IoT 2017, a community-driven event organized by Makestro from Indonesia and MyIoTC from Malaysia in collaboration with Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information. RIoT Hackathon 2017 went for 22 hours that went over Saturday and Sunday, 26–27 August 2017. The excitement of the thirty teams participated was apparent in their sacrificing their sleeping hours. They appreciate the kits that were provided for free to all participants, which they never experienced in similar hackathon events. (OH)
